Our divisions
There is a wide range of career opportunities at Helaba. From IT and finance to strategic and security-related divisions: you’re sure to find something here that suits you.
Returns, risk, group and societal benefits, and sustainability do not always go hand in hand – yet we bring them together in our sales management. To this end, we analyse portfolios, manage the sales dialogue, derive measures for the growth strategy from this analysis, and implement them in close collaboration with the market divisions – transparently and on a fact-based basis. We want to be ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow and are therefore constantly expanding our expertise in analysis, management and processes: we automate data, ensure its quality and modernise key systems and processes for governance, regulatory compliance and sales channels. If you’d like to combine analytical work with a market-oriented approach and help shape our business as a business partner, in data analysis or in governance & processes, you can join us to create more value in the portfolio together.

Legal: Clear questions, clear answers
The Legal department is Helaba’s central legal function. We clarify what the law says. But the law alone is not everything. Contracts are designed to safeguard and advance the bank’s objectives. That is why we engage with commercial and technical contexts and work closely with the specialist departments. Clear questions – clear answers. Law is not mathematics, and not every legal issue is settled by statute or the courts. Nevertheless, we provide guidance, identify risks and make clear recommendations for action so that Helaba can find the best solution. Do you enjoy providing legal advice, whether as an in-house lawyer or in another legal role? Then let’s work together to achieve more for HR and Legal.

We protect the Helaba Group against money laundering, terrorist financing, breaches of sanctions and other criminal offences. To this end, we identify risks at an early stage and implement regulatory requirements effectively. In this way, we strengthen the integrity of our business. Our guiding principle: responsibility for risks lies with the business units. We advise, guide, monitor and support the specialist departments in fulfilling this responsibility. Using modern data analysis, effective controls and clear processes, we promote safe and responsible conduct. In this way, we contribute to trust, stability and the long-term success of the Helaba Group. Do you have experience in combating financial crime, money laundering, fraud or sanctions compliance? We also maintain the bank-wide data governance framework, monitor the quality of risk data sets, independently validate models and ensure compliance with BCBS 239. We are Helaba’s central point of contact for loan exposures with a specific risk profile. We manage non-performing loans across all of the Bank’s product divisions and support our clients through economic crises. Our aim: to develop viable restructuring solutions, limit risks and position our clients for a sustainable future. With our two units, Restructuring and Recovery Management, we cover the full spectrum from financial rehabilitation to orderly resolution. Restructuring takes on loan exposures with potential for rehabilitation. We analyse the financial situation, develop turnaround strategies and implement operational and financial measures. In this way, we restore financial viability and, where possible, return exposures to standard servicing – in close collaboration with business divisions and Credit Risk Management. Recovery Management takes over when there is no longer any prospect of continuing to operate a business. We realise non-performing exposures, manage insolvency proceedings, realise collateral and manage receivables, including through debt sale transactions. In Restructuring & Recovery, you will take responsibility for complex cases where the stakes are high – sometimes even the stability of the bank is at stake. We are looking for individuals with experience in workout, restructuring or reorganisation consultancy, who are analytically strong, enjoy negotiating, develop creative solutions and, together with us, ACHIEVE MORE TOGETHER!

We consolidate the interest rate and liquidity risks arising from the Bank’s lending and underwriting activities and manage them actively. To this end, we utilise, amongst other things, derivative financial instruments and are directly active in the money and capital markets. In doing so, we safeguard customer margins, make targeted use of market opportunities and generate additional, stable contributions to earnings. Another key focus is Helaba’s refinancing. We ensure that the bank is reliably and competitively refinanced at all times. To this end, we utilise various capital market instruments and provide savings banks with, amongst other things, certificates and structured bonds. It is equally important to safeguard the bank’s liquidity. We are responsible for intraday liquidity and manage the liquidity buffer – a portfolio of highly liquid securities that ensures our solvency at all times. We constantly monitor how our decisions affect the balance sheet and results. Data plays a crucial role in this. We combine capital market expertise with specialist knowledge in risk management, accounting, data management and bank control.

The Operations division is the operational heart of Helaba: here, we ensure that day-to-day banking operations run smoothly, securely and efficiently – for all the Bank’s customer groups and products. As the central processing and service unit, we are responsible for handling domestic and international payment transactions, complex securities, capital market and derivatives transactions, as well as trade finance business with international partners. This is complemented by the processing of loans and collateral, as well as professional document and master data management, including outsourcing and service processes.
Through the KYC (Know Your Customer) process, we also ensure that regulatory requirements are consistently implemented, thereby making a significant contribution to Helaba’s integrity and reliability. This clearly distinguishes us from market-facing units such as Corporate Banking, Savings Banks and SMEs, or Corporates & Markets: whilst these units handle sales, structuring and client advisory services, we in Operations form the stable backbone of the bank’s processes and ensure that concluded transactions are transferred to operational processing in a reliable, transparent and client-focused manner.
Operations offers you a wide range of responsibilities in a modern, team-oriented environment. With us, you can start out in training and graduate programmes (e.g. work placements, working student roles, career changers), or join us with professional experience as a clerk, expert or specialist in projects and processes. You can also take on management responsibilities at team or departmental level. Let’s make more possible together.
Through our four specialist departments, we support the business units. We ensure operational stability, drive forward transformation and contribute to strategic development.
In our Administration department, we bring together central services such as post and logistics management, staff catering at the Frankfurt and Offenbach sites, and site and building management. Through our work, we create a reliable infrastructure for day-to-day banking operations and support the business divisions with efficient and standardised processes.
In the Business Governance Services department, we bring together the areas of process governance, internal control systems and business continuity management. In this way, we manage key governance issues for the bank as a whole. We ensure that processes, controls and contingency planning are designed to be consistent, effective and compliant with regulatory requirements across the Group. At the same time, we help the business units to identify risks at an early stage, thereby strengthening Helaba’s operational resilience.
In the Process Excellence department, we continuously optimise processes and further develop efficient, transparent workflows. We analyse processes together with the business units, develop them further collaboratively, promote standardised digital solutions and implement transformation projects in a structured manner.
In the Procurement department, in addition to traditional procurement matters, we are also responsible for third-party risk management and cost-conscious procurement and sourcing management. We procure goods and services cost-effectively and in compliance with regulations, and manage supplier relationships centrally – this enhances cost awareness, transparency and efficiency.
Efficient and transparent processes, effective cost management and resilient structures characterise our work. Equally important to us are collaboration and a service-oriented approach – underpinned by the guiding principle ACHIEVING MORE TOGETHER!
