Your career development opportunities

Would you like to take something forward – a project, your training, or even the next step in your career? There are plenty of good reasons to join us. And we want to make the path to joining us as clear as possible. So: Where do you want to go?

Drei Professionals sitzen lachend zusammen und blicken in dieselbe Richtung

Work placement: Experience banking first-hand

Would you like to get to know us before you commit? During an internship, you’ll gain a real insight into one of our bank’s departments – for two to three months, or in some cases five to six months. Placements start at the beginning of each month. You’re eligible to apply if you’re studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and have a good academic record. With us, you’ll get to know the bank, discover your opportunities and play an active part. For placements of up to three months and for compulsory placements, we pay you €1,500 gross per month; for longer placements during a gap year, the minimum wage applies.

Training: We’ll train you – and count on you

We want anyone who undertakes an apprenticeship with us to stay on with us if they perform well – that’s why we offer apprenticeships. Even in your first year, we’ll pay you 1,496 euros gross per month, which is more than is usual in the industry. To ensure you can learn and work from home, we’ll provide you with your own laptop. We’ll provide you with additional training and development opportunities and take the time to support your personal growth. You’ll be supported by an experienced, motivated team who’ll treat you openly and honestly. Are you thinking about not continuing your degree? Then get in touch with us – we’d be happy to offer you the chance to do an apprenticeship with us.

Trainee: A panoramic view at speed

During the 18-month trainee programme, you’ll get to know our various specialist departments and gain an insight into a subsidiary of the Helaba Group. You can start at any time of the year – we’ll work around your schedule. You should have a very good to good university degree, ideally relevant to the programme. You’ll dive straight into practical work, help shape our future and kick-start your career. You’ll be paid in accordance with pay scale 7 of the collective agreement for public banks – in your ninth year as a Bachelor’s graduate and your eleventh year as a Master’s graduate – plus 13 monthly salaries and a variable component.

Junior: Growing up with responsibility

Are you looking to kick-start your career after graduating or with some initial work experience? As a junior, you’ll join us directly in your chosen field, take on your own responsibilities from day one and grow into your target role ‘on the job’. Depending on the role and your previous experience, your induction period will last between 12 and 24 months. Throughout this time, we’ll support you with a personalised development plan, further training and opportunities to network within the organisation. We pay you in line with the collective agreement for public sector banks, including a 13th month’s salary and a variable component.

Professionals: Experience that counts

Have you already gained some professional experience and would you like to tackle the challenges of our industry with creativity and enthusiasm? Then bring your expertise and skills to one of our specialist departments. Your personality and potential are just as important to us as your professional knowledge.

Changing careers: Your path doesn’t have to be a straight one

Even if you don’t have a traditional career background, you’re welcome to apply. You don’t need to know everything already – the closer you are to the role profile, the better your chances. In every job advertisement, we set out exactly what you need to bring to the role and what you can learn whilst working with us.

Four paths, one bank: Your career with us

The opportunities available to you here are as varied as you are. Whether you want to specialise in a particular field, win new clients, manage projects or lead a team – find the path that suits you.

1Professional career: Going into depth

Do you want to delve deep into a subject? In a specialist career path, you’ll build up specialist knowledge in a clearly defined field – such as risk, back-office, IT or accounting. You’ll develop methods and standards, analyse and advise, with a say in technical matters, but without having staff reporting directly to you. This path is right for you if you define yourself by your technical expertise, enjoy working analytically and aren’t focused on leadership. For those who demonstrate exceptional potential, we provide targeted development to become subject matter experts.

2A career in sales: working closely with customers

Do you keep a close eye on the market and your customers? In a sales career, customer focus comes first. You’ll establish new business relationships, manage them and continue to develop them. Here, too, you’ll have some scope to shape your role, for example in sales management or key account management – though this does not involve personnel responsibility. This path is right for you if you’re customer-focused, a strong communicator and enjoy business development. If you want to take responsibility for turnover, profit and entire client portfolios, you’ll find the right opportunity here.

3Project career: Driving projects forward

Do you enjoy organising complex projects? In a project management role, you’ll lead transformation, IT or specialist projects: you’ll plan, coordinate, report and make decisions – often with a say in the technical aspects of the project. This career path is right for you if you enjoy working across disciplines and bringing different people together. If you want to play a central role in transformation and change projects, this is the place for you.

4A career in leadership: Setting the direction

Do you want to lead people and drive initiatives? In a management career, you’ll take on technical and line management responsibilities – as a division, department, team or branch manager. This path is right for you if you enjoy taking responsibility for staff and actively shaping the organisation and its culture. We provide targeted preparation for leadership roles, for example through internal programmes.

Grow whilst you’re with us

Our managers look closely across the whole bank, using clear criteria: who shows particular potential? We provide targeted development for these people – also with a view to potential succession roles. To this end, we rely on mentoring and work shadowing, for example.

Learn in a way that suits you

Your development only really begins with onboarding. We support you in continuously expanding your professional, digital and personal skills. Learning is part of our day-to-day work and is a key building block for your career path. Our training programmes also help you to identify current developments early on and confidently master new challenges. You’ll learn as flexibly as you work: through face-to-face and online training, digital learning journeys and e-learning modules on future-oriented topics, in short sessions on current topics, through exchanges with learning communities and networks, or via coaching and mentoring
