Story Customer

A global team

Customer advisers at various locations across the US, Europe and Asia work together across national borders. This benefits savings banks and their customers, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises and large corporations.

English is the language used by international client advisers – both within the team and when dealing with many clients. Helaba has offices in the USA, the UK, France, Spain, Sweden, Brazil, China, Singapore and Germany. Staff at the various offices keep in touch with one another across continents and time zones by telephone or video conference. They also meet in person on a regular basis to exchange experiences.

Essentially, they focus on three client groups: savings bank clients, whom they serve specifically via a ‘German Desk’ in Singapore and New York; larger medium-sized clients from Germany; and German and international corporate groups. And last but not least, local customers for whom our range of services offers added value. These customers are looking for a bank that is a reliable partner and consistent in terms of its staff and strategy – and they find it in Helaba.

We have carried out a thorough analysis of countries, interesting foreign companies and the needs of our target and network customers.

Which is the best museum in Madrid?

They are all located in the ‘Golden Triangle of Art’. Madrid is a mecca for art lovers and offers a dizzying selection of over 70 truly incredible museums.

Frank Dohl, New York

Through the “German Desk”, we offer our Sparkasse customers …

in other words, SMEs, a gateway to the American market in New York. In addition to the actual banking services, advisory services are also extremely important and in high demand.

Outbound business with European and German subsidiaries of American companies ...

is one of our key areas of focus, as Europe remains one of the most important markets for US products. And just as German companies manufacture in the US, American firms are also deeply rooted in Europe.

My team and I convince American clients by arguing that …

Helaba is a reliable and predictable long-term partner with in-depth knowledge of Europe. Particularly when operating far from their home market, it is very important for companies to be able to draw on the expertise of a bank such as Helaba and thus avoid any surprises.

My ideal Sunday begins …

with a freshly brewed coffee – I’m also happy to have an espresso or a mocha every now and then, even if it takes a bit longer. And with a Sunday newspaper in print.

The focus of our work lies in ...

actively promoting the international business of Helaba and the Sparkassen Finanzgruppe in ASEAN and South Asia, and providing expert support to Helaba’s and the Sparkassen Finanzgruppe’s corporate clients in the region on matters such as trade, export and project finance. We see the greatest opportunities ...

lie in foreign trade and specialised financing, whether in the short-term hedging of trade transactions via letters of credit, the long-term export financing of German capital goods, or in the rapidly growing debt capital market business with the region’s leading major banks. We also see particularly great potential in structuring financing for forward-looking energy and infrastructure projects with German involvement.

When I need a dose of Europe in Singapore ...
